If you want a "cheap and cheerful" waterproof camera, this one is great

If you're looking for a simple point-and-shoot that you can take underwater, this camera is great.Let me begin by explaining that I am an avid photographer; I have over $10,000 in high end DSLR equipment and lenses. I have over 20,000 photos in my collection. I know something about photography.I recently went on a sailing vacation with my family and wanted a simple digital camera to take in the water. I wasn't looking for something high-end because all i really wanted to do was shoot pics of my kids snorkeling and scuba diving. I didn't want a disposable because they aren't digital, you usually have to wind them which is a real pain in the water, and they shoot poor pictures. My wife bought me a $500 top-of-the-line underwater point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix but I took it back because it was overkill. It was waterproof to 40 feet, had an altimeter, etc -- I didn't need all that. I found this Kodak camera and it was perfect. It worked great -- we took... 5/5 Eric Schurr (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews, July 10, 2011

Performed Flawlessly Underwater during 8 Day Maui Trip

Customer Video Review Length:: 0:44 MinsThis video was recorded as I snorkeled over a reef just off Kaanapali Beach, a few hundred yards north of our hotel (Honua Kai)- not the nicest reef by far, but this video should demonstrate the camera's surprisingly good capabilities, especially considering the low price. It was late afternoon and the water was a bit murky, and I was surprised how well the video came out. I have uploaded the raw avi file (66.9 MB; 44 seconds). This camera shoots VGA (640x480). Amazon processing reduced the resolution and quality, although it still looks fairly faithful to what I uploaded. Although I read reports of this camera failing rapidly underwater, ours did not present any problems after spending many hours underwater. It appears just about all the underwater cameras have about a 10-20 per cent failure rate based on rates in reviews here on Amazon. So, I decided not to risk $200-300 on a more expensive underwater camera, as they seemed no more reliable. The... 5/5 W. Ball (Alamo, CA United States) - See all my reviews, July 22, 2011

    Great camera for the price!

0 5/5 Teachermom (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera (Blue) (Camera) We recently purchased this camera for our Disney Cruise. Our seven year old son was scheduled to snorkle with stingrays on Castaway Cay and we wanted to capture that experience. We were able to take photos and video of him with the stingrays, some of it underwater. The camera took clear pictures and video. The only drawback was it is hard to see the screen (so you know what you are photographing) and there is no viewfinder but that problem was easily outweighed by the price. We are very pleased with our purchase! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 29, 2011

    I really liked this case

0 4/5 eh - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Dicapac WP-ONE Point & Shoot Digital Camera Waterproof Case (Electronics) I tested it with the paper test and it worked fine. Still, I was a little iffy about using it for my Nikon Coolpix S6200 (I was debating on buying a few disposable water cameras) but seeing how it passed the paper test multiple times, I decided to risk it. I was so glad I did.The squishy case allowed easy access to all the buttons. I was able to switch settings on the camera and preview pictures. The extension ring allowed me to zoom in to a certain extent. The neck strap made it easy to carry the camera around (since I would have lost it if I had to hold it the whole time.)The con is that there can be a black ring around the pictures if you don't align it properly. If you align it, then it's no problem. The pictures can be hard to preview in bright places. It was fine in the shade though. But I had my camera in the case for a good 6 hours and was able to keep my camera perfectly dry.Best ~$22 I've ever spent. 0, July 22, 2012

Much better than a waterproof camera!

I purchased this for a marine biology study abroad to the Bahamas. I was debating between buying a waterproof camera and this case, and I'm so glad I got this case! One girl had a Kodak waterproof camera that lasted two days before it filled with water, and another girl had a really expensive (around $400) waterproof camera that lasted a week before it filled with water. I have a beat up 5-year-old Kodak EasyShare and this case allowed me to take great pictures, in and out of the water. The case protected from harsh salt water, fresh water, sand, and dirt. We were snorkeling twice a day for about 2 hours at a time for a 3 week class and the case is still in perfect condition. The only negative is that if you use flash, you have to be careful to push the case over the flash or else it will just reflect off of the inside of the case and your picture will look awful, but this is not an issue in bright water or during the day (I had problems on a night snorkel and in a cave). Absolute Waste of Money

0 1/5 Bob - See all my reviews This review is from: Aquashot Underwater Digital Camera, 26690-RITE - Color may Vary (Electronics) I bought one while on a cruise before a snorkeling trip. The plastic casing was a joke and allowed water to get into the camera. So I took the batteries out immediately on the boat to prevent short circuiting anything in the camera and ruining our photos. I was later greeted with a nice error message on my computer saying that the camera was empty and had no photos. I looked through the manual a bit closer and saw that taking the batteries out actually wipes the photos off of the camera. It was really nice of them to hide that piece of information in a small troubleshooting section in the back of the manual. Not worth it even if it was free because now I lost all of our photos from our vacation. If you want to keep your memories somewhere besides in your head, spend the extra money and get a better quality waterproof camera. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 27, 2014

Touted As Waterproof; Warranty Says Otherwise....

Took the Fuji XP10 out twice; once camping at Lake Tahoe and again at Kern River. The Fuji functioned well on the first outting, but started developing problems on the latter camping trip: moisture started developing in the lens area, causing photos to appear foggy. The display became disrupted, as the moisture that permeated the camera began to make it's way through the housing.I sent the Fuji XP10 back to Fuji in hopes of getting it replaced, but received an invoice stating, "Water damage in camera not covered under warranty."Um, no kidding. The invoice also requested a payment of approximately $118 for an exchange of the same camera, with $100 of the cost going towards "labor"... Labor for what?!?! 0 3/5 Ed from Las Cruces (Las Cruces, New Mexico) - See all my reviews This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix XP10 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Green) (Electronics) Just took the new camera on a white water rafting trip down the Grand Canyon. Clearly the camera met the specs for water tightness and shock ability as this type of trip had both. Pictures were of low quality, with little ability to handle a mix of shadows and light. Shutter is slow and unresponsive to the moment. In bright sunshine, or very low evening light, the lack of a view finder rendered most pictures a pure guess. Controls at the top of the camera for on/off and snapping the picture were too low a profile to allow for handling in tough situations. Worst of all was dismal battery life--only able to get about 100-125 pictures, while carefully turning the camera off in between, before battery was exhausted. Overall--very disappointing. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 23, 2010

Loaded with great features, but average photo quality.

Customer Video Review Length:: 4:27 MinsThe Sony TX30 is a small, feature rich, and fun waterproof digital camera, so it's a shame the photo quality isn't better.(I'd like to preface this review by saying that I've owned the predecessor to this camera, the TX20, and it has stayed waterproof through the many water adventures I took it on. I will also be bringing it up from time to time in this review to compare it to the TX30.)The TX30 is a very stylish and modern looking camera. It's made of three different finishes - there's a matte plastic, a matte metal, and a textured glossy metal. Together they make even the black TX30 look rich and different. The materials and assembly quality are both high, and the TX30 feels solid and well assembled in the hand. On the back of the camera is a 3.3" OLED touch screen display that has a plastic cover. The plastic screen is similar to the TX20's and scratches fairly easily, so be sure to use a case with the camera if you want it... 4/5 Anthony Pantliano "The Photo Guy" (New York State) - See all my reviews, May 22, 2013

GREAT UNDERWATER CAMERA BETTER THEN MOST WATERPROOF CAMERAS

I bought this for Vacation as an exclusive underwater camera hoping it would give good quality underwater pictures. For everyday I use a DSLR Canon 7D with many L lenses. I am impressed with this little camera. The underwater pictures are very good considering how small this camera is. You can't change settings underwater although you can use the zoom underwater. The pictures are good quality considering the size and keeping in mind it is a tiny point and shoot. I "sometimes" got lens HAZE/Glare like most underwater cameras do out of water (not all the time but sometimes depending on the lighting and what I was shooting). Indoors the picture quality decreases unless you have good lighting, when you are desperate for lighting the flash works fine. You can also adjust ISO and EV to further help with lighting situations. There is an AF Illuminator which helps to focus in pitch dark. You do have the option to turn this great feature off or on.
