  GoPro LCD Touch BacPac - for Hero 3

  The ability to review video and photos via the LCD bacpac was the most important thing for me - going for a ride you can position your hero3 in any position you want to via the Smartphone app but this doesnt give you any indication of the lighting and how well the video is captured whilst in motion eg - is protune and 1080p 30fps in wide going to be the best for the environment I'm in? etc .. easy - take out your lcd screen attach to the back of camera or leave it attached and review footage at whatever time mid ride without a need for the pc - so the whole ride can be captured correctly. This screen isnt spectacular by any means but it is good enough, adjusting the camera settings by touch screen is also easier the package includes several case backings so touch screen is usable while in the case... plenty of options.   A must have GoPro accessory!

  My only complaint when I purchased my GoPro HD was the lack of screen. Even though I didn't NEED a screen (since the camera would be mounted all the time) I still found myself in situations where a screen would come in handy. When GoPro came out with the LCD BacPac attachment I picked it up right away.   If you use a helmet cam, you know you are paying for a specialty item.When you buy accessories for a specialty item, you tend to pay more as well.So, no strikes on the price. I knew what I was getting and the cost is fair.The Key benefits1. You CAN see what you are aiming it. Get the right shot, the first time.2. It allows full text viewing of all your menu items instead of the cryptic lettering on the front3. You can set the auto-off. It will go off after XX seconds and not use battery after.4. You get a a bunch of housings, that if bought separately would be nearly the cost of the LCD.Used it on a snowmobile ride recently where branches and other assorted issues cause the top helmet mount to be out of wack.   The perfect add on for a Go-Pro camera!

  I found the LCD screen to be quite clear even though it is small. This BacPak does add about 1/2" of additional bulk to the camera, so if weight or size is an issue, then it can be easily removed and used with out.What I really like about it is that the menu system displays now on the BacPac LCD in real words instead of only those cryptic letters on the front LCD screen That is a big plus in my opinion!As far as battery life, the screen can easily be shut off in order to conserve battery life.I really do like the flexibility of now being able to view pictures and videos immediately instead of having to wait to access a computer. This can make a BIG difference between getting the shot you are looking for instead of a shot of the sky or ground!As a final comment, make sure you install the new firmware BEFORE trying to use the BacPak.   Most of the time I'm using my GoPro, I only use the LCD for setting up shots or shot angles, but I always use it when I'm handheld shooting. You know what you're framing and can quickly adjust to get some really cool perspectives. Unless I'm handheld shooting, I usually set it to turn off a minute after the last button press in case i forget to turn it off myself. You can also adjust the brightness if you need to. I wind up using it a bunch to review pictures and videos too. It has a speaker, so you can hear the audio track.   Handy to have

  An essential piece to my camera bag, since I plan to do as much video production with my GoPro as possible.However...I've heard people complain about having to pay for this tripod mount. Since GoPro is mainly used for action sport/activities where the camera is attached to the person or vehicle, it wouldn't really make sense to add this piece to the already generous slew of mounts that come with the camera. If you're planning on doing videography where the tripod is the camera's main resting place, then the GoPro camera isn't really for you in the first place. This is just something handy to have if the need arises. Not all will use it.The tripod mount is made of the same high quality plastic as the rest of the mounts -- not much to tell. It does what it does.However, I have reduced the review from 5 stars to 4 stars because it does not come with the nut you screw into.   Doesn't come with the nut... and a little overpriced.

  Do yourself a favor, and buy a couple of 5mm Hex Nut caps from your local hardware store (my Home Depot had them in packs of 2 for ~ 50 cents, you'll find them in some drawers in the hardware section). The mount doesn't come with the bolt (but you can use the one you already have), but real issue is that it doesn't come with the nut, which all the other mounts have (hence the previous recommendation). Including this nut would have saved me the trouble of going to a hardware store, and getting it on my own. Although, you could probably pull it off one of your other mounts, but that is more of a hassle to pull that tiny thing off, and risk dropping it and losing it.Anyway, it seems like it will be pretty decent. Pretty overpriced for a plastic adapter to convert it to a tripod mount. It'll definitely do the job, but could have been more handy with the nut, and cheaper would have been better too. 3/5 J.   Does what its supposed to do but way overpriced.

  For some reason GoPro believes this little jewel is worth it's weight in gold because that's about what they charge for it. And I wouldn't object so much but it even doesn't come with a nut. Adding a nut might raise their total production costs all the way up to what, 15 cents maybe. So at nearly eight bucks, the price is totally absurd. But then again, it's the same will all their accessories. They sell the camera cheap and then stick you for the accessories you need to get the most out of it.Edit: Since the original review, GoPro has seen the error in their ways and is now including a nut.   Sweet, yet could be better.

  Stand alone charging that I can also connect to the camera allowing for longer shots... Just what I wanted.Size is same as the LCD bacpac but the battery bacpac weighs almost as much as the whole camera. Not sure if I would want it attached to my head mount.What would I change or ask differently? How about a little carrying case that I can safely carry this in when not in use. I worry about damage to the port when not in use. Same issue I have with the LCD bacpac.   Must have for GoPro shooter

  I have 4 GoPros and keeping up with cards and batteries during a hectic shoot can be tough. This thing is a must have. The camera lasts so long now it's great. Also perfect for timelapse shooting when you don't have nearby house power. I also use the battery bacpacs to charge batteries instead of the camera.   Monitor is great. Touch not so much.

  The LCD is a nice feature to the gopro. Definitely getting alot of use out of it. It's not the greatest resolution, but it's enough so that you're not flying blind. Unfortunately the touch element is consistently frustrating. Sometimes it will work alright. Other times it's unresponsive or will select something different than what you touched. I find it easier to just use the main buttons and cycle through the options. Would be great if the touch element was more reliable.   Awesome, must-have accessory.

  All I can say is that this transforms my GoPro Hero3 from an awesome camera to a truly awesome camera. It is small, easy to attach and detach, and allows you to see what you're filming. The touch screen functionality is great. I have had no problems using it and making selections.   Looser is not necessarily better.

  I got this kit just a few days ago and have used each of the batteries once and the wall charger for all batteries, including the one that came with my GoPro Hero2. Here are my observations:The wall charger: Works pretty much as intended, but mine has an odd tendency for the green LED to remain on while charging. The amount of output seems to vary, so the resulting light between the red and green can vary from yellowish to orangeish colors. If I wiggle the battery around in the charger the color also flickers. It's a minor issue, since a fully charged battery does glow solid green, and I'm not going to worry about it much. I am knocking a half star off my rating though.Battery life: the batteries do last longer than the original, as they are rated at 1400mAh compared to the 1100mAh of the GoPro battery. However, both original and Wasabi batteries drain much faster that what GoPro advertises. I have seen similar issues reported all over the 'net. I am getting... 4/5 K.   The kit arrived very promptly with standard shipping and in great shape. Nice packaging and the batteries and the charger seem well made. The batteries fit the GoPro camera better than the OEMs, being much easier to get in & out of the camera. I put a tab of mylar tape on all the batteries - necessary to removing the OEMs and a convenience for these Wasabi batteries.   Love this case

  My wife gave me a Hero3 with an extra battery, the video back and a handful of mounts. I started looking for a storage solution that was compact, gave good protection and lightweight while able to fit camera and all the goodies. This seemed to be the best option for what I needed and after using it a few weeks I am very happy I made the purchase. If I was reviewing the price this would get knocked down a star or two because it is expensive but being the only good option for what I wanted I had to "pay to play". When you think about paying a little extra to protect your investment of a nice GoPro system that you take everywhere it is probably well worth the cost.A good review should be based on the overall product including its performance and this case gets five stars for that. It has a nice dense pre-cut foam interior that fits the camera (in it's case), an extra battery, an extra SD card, the video back, a nice amount of accessories and a netted area on the top section to hold... 5/5 S.
