  Good video - user interface could be improved

  I bought this primarily to be used as a car dash camera.I attached the helmet mounting bracket to my dashboard and record my commute to and from work each day.The video is as good as you would see on cops or other police video shows, actually better than some.There are only 3 buttons for the user interface, on/off, camera, and menu. The menu options I still haven't figured out.But for the most part, you turn it on, start/stop the video, and that's it.The device is waterproof and I plan to use it scuba diving and kayaking.Its a very cool video recorder - very compact, comes with numerous mounting options, and records really good video.AA batteries last about 4 hours. Rechargeable AA's last around 3 hours. A 4 GB memory card provides around 2 hours of video.If the user interface was a little more intuitive, I would have easily given this 5 stars. 4/5 C.   Good for the money?

  I have only used this a few times so far, but I will give my first impressions since no one else has. The gist is - the quality of the video is not great - but to get better in an action cam you would have to spend three times as much.I took it mountain biking and captured a few videos. It was mostly easy to set up out of the box - except the direction omit some steps in how to attach the mount to the camera. But for the most part it was easy to prepare.The video I took was in the woods just after sunset, so it was not surprising that the first sequence was a bit dark, and the next one was too dark to use. But I though it did fairly well considering the light conditions. The camera was attached to my handlebars, so the video was predictably choppy. But all in all I would have to say it was acceptable.   Very durable, easy controls, poor sound

  I mounted this camera both on my helmet and my mountain bike and took it on some singletrack adventures. I had several wipeouts where I landed on the camera or the camera directly hit the ground, and it continues to work great! Since it is waterproof as well as shock-resistant, there are no microphone openings, which means that the sound quality is very poor.   Best action camera for the money

  Customer Video Review Length:: 3:41 MinsThis is a quick overview of the Drift x170 (shot with a cell phone camera) and some sample videos taken with the X170 in the first couple of weeks I owned it.As I point out in the video, the build quality of this camera is great: the battery & media door clips shut solidly, and the rotating lens feels very firm, and doesn't budge after you set it where you want it. Also the clip that holds the camera into the various mounts works well, and is easy to remove when needed.The car scene in the video was helped out with a third party suction cup mount, which went onto the X170 no problem (.)   Excellent Camera and Features but with Limitations of Low Resolution

  Pros:1. The camera is so light it almost feels like a piece of styrofoam.2. The built-in LCD display allows playback anytime without a computer and helps line up shots properly.3. Loads of mounting options let you securely attach the camera to a helmet, seat post, handlebars, or almost anywhere else.4. Runs on inexpensive AA batteries rather than special battery packs that are expensive to replace. I get 4 hours of continuous recording from two AA Energizer Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries in warm weather.5. Wireless remote control lets you start and stop shooting without fumbling for buttons when the camera is on top of your helmet.6. I pedaled a bicycle for miles through a rainstorm with this camera on top of my helmet and it kept right on working.7.   Fabulous Camera Super for So Many Uses

  My husband and I bought this camera after using one while cat-skiing in British Columbia. I love the fact that it's compact and low-profile, so it doesn't get snagged in the trees. Most of the other cameras we looked at didn't have an LCD screen or remote control. The screen is really important because I wanted to make sure we're getting the shot we want rather than getting home to find out we were shooting snow or sky all day. For cold weather, AA lithium batteries last longest. I really like the fact that the Drift takes AA batteries, because we didn't need to worry about finding a custom battery in the backwoods of Canada! This camera is simple to operate and phenomenally priced. I'm getting one for my husband for Father's Day so we can both shoot video at the same time.   WTF? No Battery Installation Instructions???

  No battery installation instructions included with the battery or in the camera instruction manual. This battery is much thicker than the battery that comes with the camera and that requires the removal of part of the battery holder for the original battery. It is not easy to do and i couldn't figure it out until I saw it done. You can Google this issue and a video from a third party is available that demonstrates how to install this replacement battery. I tried to put the link for the demo on this review, but Amazon's control-freak goon squad would not publish the review with an external link. Once you get the battery into the camera it works great. So this would have been a 5 star product if the folks at Drift had the sense enough to provide instructions on how to perform this tricky battery installation. 4/5 W. E.   BEWARE - Does not fit new Drift HD

  The Drift cameras are clearly excellent products. I have no complaints. Just writing to advise you that the Drift HD cannot accommodate the long life battery.   Honestly, I used this so many times without charging it that I WANTED to drain the battery to get a fresh recharge. This is really worth it if you plan on doing some sort of expedition where you can't charge your battery. Plus, you still have the old battery.   Satisfied with prouct considering price

  Yes I am satisfied with this product especially considering what you get for the price. Only wish I could find more innovative type Mounts in order to get some really crazy video...   Not very good video and audio quality

  I actually regret buying this. The GoPro is far superior. The mic on this one is muffled and the picture quality is very low and blurry. It now sits in the box in the bottom of the closet.
